Thai Basil Beef (Pad Kra Pow)

Ingredients
FOR THE SAUCE:
2 tablespoons
Reduced sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Fish sauce
2 tablespoons
Brown sugar
1 tablespoon
Oyster sauce
1 tablespoon
Lime juice
1/2 teaspoon
Ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon
Ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon
Black pepper
1 teaspoon
Asian chili sauce
1 teaspoon
Toasted sesame oil
1 teaspoon
Cornstarch
FOR THE STIR FRY
1 tablespoon
Vegetable oil
1 pound
Ground beef
6 cloves
Garlic (minced)
1-2
Jalapenos (sliced)
OR sliced serrano peppers
1/2 of a
Sweet onion (thinly sliced)
1 small
Bell pepper (sliced)
1 cup
Thai or regular basil leaves (picked off the stem)
FOR SERVING:
Rice
Chili sauce
Sliced peppers
And/or lime
Step by Step Instructions
- Whisk all of the ingredients in the "Sauce" section together in a bowl, then set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat in a wok or cast iron skillet. Once the oil is ready, add the ground beef and break it up. Flatten the beef against the pan, let it cook for 45 seconds, turn it over, flatten again, and cook for 30 seconds. Break up the beef further and drain the grease.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, jalapeno or serrano peppers, and garlic. Stir fry for 2 minutes. Stir the sauce, and add it to the stir fry and cook for 2 minutes more. Add the basil and cook until the beef has thoroughly cooked.
- Serve as desired.
